A Load of Bollards

A bollard is a short, sturdy vertical post. The term originally referenced a post on a ship or riverside quay used for mooring boats. They posts continue to be installed throughout the City to control road traffic and prevent vehicles from crashing into pedestrians. Today, they are London's silent guardians – the City's Dark Knights and a useful reference point to a local pub.
