Gematria

Gematria is an ancient mathematical system that assigns numerical values to letters of the alphabet. Used by Vedics and Assyro-Babylonians, then Greeks and Jews, notably in those associated with the Kabbalah. It has been used in English since the 17th century from translations of works by Giovanni Pico della Mirandola.
